What are the Poor Quality Links?

Poor quality link building, also known as black hat SEO, involves numerous forms of spamming and is designed to artificially inflate a website’s search engine rankings. White hate SEO, on the other hand, focuses on more relevant and authoritative link building by building relationships with clients.

What does poor quality link building involve?
  1. Spam forum posting
  2. Excessive keyword use (a common theme in the early days of SEO but now considered spam)
  3. Fake websites and profiles
  4. Excessive submissions to directories
These methods can sometimes give companies a ‘fast-track’ boost to the top of Google temporarily, however, they are very risky and unethical.  Certain SEO agencies use these methods to make a quick profit before moving on to apply their deceptive tactics to new customers.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate Marketing is to endorse some other company’s products and to make a commission in return (if a deal is made). It is also a pronounced way for functioning websites to increase their traffic and revenue.

As compared with Internet Marketing, Affiliate Marketing is more dedicated and works in the form of a bond between a marketer and a company. It is profitable to both of these only when a sale is made. It is also a great approach to earn handsome money online.

Ways to increase your Affiliate Marketing operations

  1. The foremost step is to use numerous methods to grow traffic to your blog or website. This generates more likelihood of sale for an item that you are promoting. Writing good reviews about the products that you plan to promote is an outstanding method to entice readers who require correct information on their selected products.

SEO Musts for Local Business

The Internet might be global in nature, but if your business is local, it makes no sense to concentrate on global reach, when your customers live in your city, or even in your neighborhood. For local businesses getting a global reach is a waste of resources. Instead, you should concentrate on the local community. You might be asking how you can do it, when the Web is global and Google doesn't classify sites according to their location. Here is how you can go local with SEO:

1. Use your location in your keywords.
The first trick is to use your location in your keywords. For example, if you are in London and you sell car insurance, your most important keyphrase should be “car insurance London” because this keyphrase contains your business and your location and will drive people who are looking for car insurance in London in particular.

Beginners SEO Guide

Everybody searches something on Google or a different search engine almost every day. Let’s say you go to Google and search for a particular word or a phrase. Google gives you a list of results and you open the first or may be the second result in the list. We barely go to the second page on Google result lists because the results on the first page are always reliable and informative. A website that appears on the first search result page has a good ranking and visibility for a specific keyword. There are various tools and methods through which one can improve one’s website’s visibility and ranking. The process of improving the visibility and ranking of a website in a Search engine is called as Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Depending on how frequently a website appears in the search results of a search engine, it receives more and more visitors from that particular search engine’s users.

10 Lessons About Enterprise SEO

I have been fortunate in my 3 year SEO career to work with a huge number of companies and I have seen many different implementations of an "SEO campaign." I've seen what works and what doesn't, especially at the enterprise level.
What follows are 10 lessons that I have learned over the years so that you might know what to watch out for as you run or manage your own SEO campaign. Hopefully you find the information valuable!

Lesson #1 - Don't Ignore SEO Recommendations

Put another way, SEO recommendations need to be given their proper prioritization within the list of everything else your IT team is trying to accomplish for your website.
It's important to recognize that most IT teams don't have much visibility into analytics and don't see how much traffic (and ultimately revenue) is created through organic search. Be sure to share this information with them along with the potential opportunity that search could bring to the site if it was better optimized. After all, the name of the game in this economy is revenue and you can't make any if you don't have customers.

Identify rel=”nofollow” Links without Viewing the HTML Source Code

One of the most important skills an advanced SEO must possess is the ability to analyze and understand the link structure of a given web page or website. This skill can be applied to many different SEO-related topics, such as information architecture, link building, and the mysterious practice of PageRank sculpting. Even “content is king” advocates rely on links to deliver traffic, increase rankings, and to make their content discoverable to search engine crawlers.
Anyone who’s serious about SEO needs to be able to easily identify links that (a) cannot be crawled, or (b) cannot flow PageRank. Two common examples of this are:
  • links that include the rel="nofollow" attribute
  • links that are embedded in a page via inline frames (i.e. <iframe> elements)
In this article, I will show you how I have customized my web browser (Firefox 3.5) to help me identify nofollowed links and iframes, without viewing a page’s HTML source code. If you don’t use Firefox, you can still benefit from the CSS examples in this post, but you will have to figure out how to add custom user-defined CSS styles to your browser. If you’re using Internet Explorer, just kill yourself.

Google Penguin Update 3 Released, Impacts 0.3% Of English-Language Queries

Google’s Matt Cutts used Twitter this afternoon to announce that Google is launching the latest “data refresh” of its Penguin spam-fighting algorithm today and that it will affect searches across multiple languages

Including the original Penguin algorithm launch in late April, this is the third update, so we’re calling it Penguin 3 and avoiding the previous 1.1, 1.2, etc. naming scheme, just as we’ve done with the Panda updates.

Penguin Releases So Far

Here’s the list so far, showing when each Penguin update came out, the percentage of English-languages queries it was said to impact (other languages are also impacted, but we’re using English as a consistent baseline):
  • Penguin 1: April 24, 2012 (3.1%)
  • Penguin 2: May 26, 2012 (less than 0.1%)
  • Penguin 3: Oct. 5, 2012 (0.3%)

Some Details On Penguin 3

Cutts, chief of Google’s spam team, posted about the Penguin update in a series of tweets. The first said that a Penguin data refresh is on its way and that about 0.3 percent of English-language queries will be “noticeably affected.”

Quick Ways to Start SEO on a New Website

Search engine optimization, while hands-down the most effective method for long-term, high-quality traffic, is not an overnight process. Depending on how competitive your keyword is, it can take anywhere from a few weeks, to a few months to start seeing organic traffic from the search engines. To help you get some good traffic while you wait for the search engines to push your website up the rankings, here are a few quick ways to start SEO on a new website.

Networking

In the early days of your new website, the majority of your traffic will be coming from other, more established websites within your niche. The most effective way to snag some of this traffic is to network with web masters, blog owners, and anyone else at the top of a well-established website. This can lead to these webmaster giving you a mention on their website or something similar, instantly making you an authority in the eyes of their readers. Ideally, you could form partnerships with some of these web masters which will give you a significant boost in traffic early in your SEO career. For example, you could offer to split the profits from an e-book you wrote by asking a webmaster to send your e-book to his already established e-mail list.

How to use Google+ Hangouts for Business

One unique feature of Google+ is the ability to host hangouts. Here I explains how you can use it to your business' advantage.

Reasons to use Google+ Hangouts

So what are some good reasons to use Google+ Hangouts? Here are just a few.
  • Grow your Google+ audience. Google+ allows you to share hangouts with the public or with only particular people in your Google+ circles. Encourage people to follow you on Google+ by setting up hangouts only for connections.
  • Really connect with your fans. It’s one thing to interact with your fans through status updates and comments, but by inviting your fans to join you live on video, you are opening the door to even more meaningful engagement.
  • Create video content for your website. Google+ now allows you to not only broadcast hangouts live, but also record them to post on your YouTube channel. This makes it an easy way to create great video content for your video marketing campaign.

Hangout ideas

Now that you know a few reasons why you would want to use Google+ Hangouts, let's take a look at some actual hangout ideas that could apply to your business.
  • Start a regular industry discussion show. Get your audience in the habit of checking out a regular weekly or monthly show where you discuss the latest news in your industry. You can invite nine random participants to ask questions or invite other industry leaders to participate in the discussion.
  • Host a regular Q&A session. Instead of creating a pre-planned discussion, you could always open the floor up to nine participants who ask you questions about your industry, products, or services.
  • Record simple webinars. Sure, you won’t be able to invite thousands to your broadcast, collect their email addresses, and follow up via email like other popular webinar services let you do. But you can record a simple webinar on Google+ Hangouts whenever you want for free, rather than pay for a regular monthly service.
  • Interactive how-to videos. Start a hangout with an educational tutorial or how-to session and then invite participants to ask questions. Think of it like a live classroom or webinar where the students can be on-screen to participate.

6 Brilliant Tips for Maintaining Website Traffic

Use my 6 brilliant tips for maintaining traffic. Better still they are free and simple to implement.

  1. Keep the content relevant to your target audience and current visitors. For instance, don't write about your dog if your website is on learning languages.
  2. Develop a tone that is in tune with your audience - Don't bombard your reader with technical language they have no knowledge of.
  3. Don't substitute quantity for quality. Indeed, aim for high quality content above all.
  4. Offer your audience something different. Write about something novel or something that no one else knows. Or take an original or alternative viewpoint on an issue. Or offer an alternative way of doing things, or using your product in a novel way. Especially grasp this if they are relevant to your niche.
  5. Be concise. Don't waffle on unnecessarily or bombard your reader with things of no interest to them. If you have an exciting point to make or an attractive offer, don't cloud it with irrelevant information. Don't have lengthy introductions. Get into the substance straight away. Make your content digestible - Using bullet points are useful for this.
  6. Have a variety of media and content on your website to keep users entertained - Include a crazy or attention-grabbing photo, interviews with renowned, well-known, or respected people

Don't delay implementing these excellent methods. The longer you wait the more traffic you will lose.

Google: Further Penguin Update “Jolts” To Come; Panda Is Smoother & Monthly

Fasten your seat belt, if you’ve been spamming Google. The anti-spam “Penguin Update” will have more jolts in the coming months, as Google continues to adjust it. In contrast, updates to the Panda algorithm aimed at low-quality pages are now so minor as not to be noticed, when they roll out monthly.

Speaking yesterday at the SES San Francisco conference, the head of Google’s spam fighting team Matt Cutts talked about how Google is still adjusting the Penguin Update algorithm that’s designed to penalize sites that spam Google.

Technically, Google’s saying that Penguin isn’t a penalty but rather an “adjustment” that simply doesn’t let sites get rewarded for spam as much as in the past. In particular, some linking activities that generated credit in the past seem to have been taken out.

Updatequakes & Aftershocks

Last year, Google rolled out its Panda Update designed to penalize (or adjust) pages that had poor quality content. Each further update produced changes in the search results, creating “winners and losers” that were felt across a wide-range of publishers.

But kind of like an major earthquake, each Panda update was more like an aftershock to the main quake, where the effects were less dramatic. Now Panda’s updated on a roughly monthly basis, Cutts said, and the changes are so subtle that few notice.

Indeed, Google itself hasn’t announced any major changes to get us from Panda 3.0 to Panda 4.0 and beyond. The latest, in late July, we dubbed Panda 3.9. It seems likely we’re going to have Panda 3.91 follow, rather than going to Panda 4.0.

Penguin Is Still Shaking Out

Penguin is different. Cutts said that because the Penguin algorithm is newer, it will face bigger adjustments and thus be more “jolting” for people it hits, until it smooths out over time similar to Panda. He also just added more to his statement yesterday in a comment at Search Engine Roundtable:

I was giving context on the fact that lots of people were asking me when the next Penguin update would happen, as if they expected Penguin updates to happen on a monthly basis and as if Penguin would only involve data refreshes.

If you remember, in the early days of Panda, it took several months for us to iterate on the algorithm, and the Panda impact tended to be somewhat larger (e.g. the April 2011 update incorporated new signals like sites that users block). Later on, the Panda updates had less impact over time as we stabilized the signals/algorithm and Panda moved closer to near-monthly updates.

Likewise, we’re still in the early stages of Penguin where the engineers are incorporating new signals and iterating to improve the algorithm. Because of that, expect that the next few Penguin updates will take longer, incorporate additional signals, and as a result will have more noticeable impact. It’s not the case that people should just expect data refreshes for Penguin quite yet.

So far, Google’s only announced one further change to Penguin, which we dubbed Penguin 1.1. That came last May, about a month after the initial Penguin Update. We made it Penguin 1.1 rather than Penguin 2.0 because, as Google said it impacted less than 0.1% of all search results, it seemed a minor change.

Will the next update be Penguin 1.2 or Penguin 2.0, and will it be soon? Certainly, it feels overdue, and given what Cutts said, it seems likely to be a major revision. Keep in mind, however, that for all the “losers” in any update that will scream, there will be winners — perhaps even some of the sites that lost initially.

Google’s Venice Update: A Push For Local SEO

You probably know about Google’s Panda and Penguin algorithm updates, but what about the Venice update? A few months ago, Google rolled out Venice, which focused largely on local search. Although it’s a bit under the radar, the Venice update is extremely important for local business owners because search queries no longer depend on the searcher for location specific words – it uses the searcher’s IP address to deliver location-based results. There’s no better time to focus on local SEO than now!

What exactly is the Venice update?

Released in February, the Venice update changed how Google users search. Google wants to provide you with the most relevant results to your queries, so they added location to the mix. The two statements they released about Venice were that it made “improvements to ranking for local search results” and that it “improved local results” overall. You may have noticed your “current” location displayed in the left column of your Google search screen. This location, based off of your IP address, is used to determine search results. For instance, you can simply search for “hair salon” and Google will show you sites for salons in your area on the first page (as illustrated below). You can also change it manually if you wish, allowing you to look up businesses in other areas. Convenient, right?

Search Engine Optimization

Good content is important for any SEO campaign and is one of the most important aspects of SEO. SEO is nothing but content marketing. The success of a website depends on the rate of traffic for that website.
Good content helps to attract users to websites.  Updating the content is also very important in attracting customers to websites. If a website has good content it leads users to go through each and every part of the site.

If the content is easy to understand by users then the site will get a higher ranking.  Providing unique content for a website is of high priority.  If we have ‘keyword related’ content then the website has higher chances of being ranked well.

Facebook Ads : What Are You Really Paying For?

About three weeks ago, I ran an ad campaign on Facebook for a fanpage that resulted in an increase of Likes from 100 to around 900. Success!

…or so I thought. After a week of posting content designed to engage the new audience and attract more new followers, the individual post Likes were averaging the same totals as prior to the campaign.

This was frustrating. My initial reaction was, “Hmm, maybe these ad-generated “Likes” that I’m getting are fake,” but all I had to go on was a few weeks’ worth of data and a hunch. That’s when I brought it up to Brent Csutoras of Kairay Media over a cup of coffee.

What are Doorway Pages, and Should I Use Doorway Pages?

Doorway pages are Web pages designed and built specifically to draw search engine visitors to your website. They are standalone pages designed only to act as doorways to your site. Doorway pages are a very bad idea for several reasons, though many SEO firms use them routinely.

As a rule of thumb, if you can't reach the page by following the site navigation, then it is a doorway page. You are not supposed to "visit" the page. Instead, you are just supposed to find it in the search results and then click through to get to the site in question. In essence, a doorway page is no more than a one-page click-through advertisement for a website. However, when you are searching, you don't want to visit one-page click-through advertisements for a website. You want to visit websites. Think of doorway pages as giant banner ads, only worse. You're searching for "widgets" and instead of getting a widget site, you get a page that says, "click here for widgets." You just did that! Now they're asking you to do it again. Are you going to click?

How To Optimize A Magento Product Detail Page

Product detail pages are critical for ecommerce sites. They are also the ones Google and other search engines have the most trouble with.

While Magento provides some basic search-engine-optimization capabilities out of the box, search engines still face challenges when crawling the pages of a Magento-powered storefront. This article will focus on the product detail pages. It is the first in a series where I will review the SEO changes you can do to a Magento setup. The idea is to make it easier for the search engines to find, index and rank the pages — without alienating your users. These detailed SEO changes will dramatically improve the search performance of Magento product detail pages, making them much more effective at doing their job. In subsequent articles, I will go over the changes to other important pages like main category pages, sub-categories, internal search pages, etc.

What Should We Optimize?

There are two classes of SEO elements that need to be optimized on any given page: Those that the user can see on the page and those that primarily the search engine bots can see. The first we call “user visible” and the second we call “machine visible.”

Performing a proper search engine optimization ensures that your site is easily visible on internet. If you want to make it easier for the users to find your website, apply the following tips.
  • Linking your website to relevant content of reputed website helps improving your search engine ranking. This is one of the most important factors of Search Engine Optimization. Search engines promote relevant off-site links more that the internal ones. You can increase your website’s ranking and visibility by trading the links with related sites.
  • Keyword density plays a vital role in SEO. Preferably, your page should have 20% or less keyword density.

The Importance of Determining SERP Competition

Great detectives are timeless and now is a great time to start stepping up your SERP sleuthing :)
SEO has long been a process in which instant financial gratification has been hard to come by (especially on a brand new project). I believe the "patience" trait required by the nature of SEO is what causes many projects to fail due to a couple of different things:
  1. Many people getting into SEO get sold on "make a lot of easy money working from home" mantras and are lured in by otherwise dishonest marketers.
  2. SEO has a lot of upfront cost that may not be recouped for months (or years)
As organic real estate continues to become more elusive and expensive inside of Google (and harder to evaluate thanks to *not provided*) it really has never been more important to appropriately evaluate your competition and your keyword market.

Web Design that Gets Visitors

A good design has a soothing affect while a great design can have a mesmerizing one."

Easily said than done! When it comes to deciding on a remarkable design for a website, the best place to look for is the web itself. The online environment is a constantly evolving entity that offers a barrage of refreshing designs that one can look in order to gain worthwhile inspiration from. This however, doesn't suggest blatantly copying someone else's design. It should rather be taken as an unlocking shudder to the creative senses that are locked deep inside our mind. Developing a visually appealing design is usually a combination of this and the use of skillful craftsmanship. The eye-appealing beauty of any web design needs more than a well defined layout, engaging graphics and an easy to grasp message.

Broken link strategies that you haven’t heard before!

Link building is vital step in the SEO process that serves to generate in bound traffic from reputed, highly-ranked websites, directories, blogs as well as the social network. With the volume of content updated across innumerable web pages each minute, and changes in website structures, it is often very difficult to guarantee that all links across these content pages will lead to the intended landing pages.

Broken or invalid links that lead nowhere offer a great opportunity to capture attention in a more direct way, by simply promoting a link to your website, while pointing out broken links on other web pages, which make take a lot of time and effort on the part of the webmaster to identify and correct regularly.
Your request to replace broken links with those leading to your site may well be entertained since these broken links, when unnoticed may cost a website its SERP ranking in the long run. Here’s how you can creatively capitalize on broken links to strengthen your position on the SERP.

Google Penguin Update Means No SEO?

White Hat SEO is the soul of search engines. Search Engines need SEO equally as your websites need it

Google-Penguin-News

We had posted an infographic earlier this month which referred to the words Matt Cutts’ (Head of Google webspam team) where he had mentioned that the Google Penguin update is not targeted on SEO but on webspam. However, with many of the webmasters Googled-SEOout there who thought they were doing white hat and safe SEO got their websites penalized by the penguin update. This has created a general panic among all whether it is safe to use any SEO strategies again? Now I emphasis the word “THOUGHT”. They just THOUGHT that they were doing white hat SEO. More than half of all the SEO works done today across the planet is outsourced to freelancers and novice SEO firms who doesn’t understand the search engine algorithms but just focus on building as many anchor text links as possible. They convince their clients that they are performing safe SEO while they themselves are not sure about that. The result, penguin doesn’t make the mistake of ignoring your website. While I was creating this infographic using all the comments and reactions from webmasters after the penguin update, it was clear to me that most of the frustrated webmasters  just THOUGHT they were doing safe SEO, while in reality they were unintentionally spamming the web.

Without SEO, no website would highlight in the search results and would eventually be hidden for eternity. Say “YES” to whitehat SEO and don’t just THINK it is white hat, instead “MAKE SURE!”

Google Penguin Update : 5 Types of Link Issues Harming Some Affected Websites

Are you angry and looking for answers about why your rankings vanished after Google released its Penguin update? One common factor thus far appears to be the signals of links that are pointing to your website, early analysis indicates.

The main purpose of the Penguin update is to put a deep freeze on web spam in Google's search results. By extension, a big piece of that web spam appears to be links from low-quality networks.

Natural Links

Before we get into the new findings, first it’s important to understand a bit about Google and links.
Above all, Google considers links as editorial "votes". So, theoretically, the sites that receive the most votes should rank higher on Google because more people find them valuable.
